Legends you need to know #3: Technical Itch

Drum and Bass is a genre that is today so widespreaded that we can look at it as mainstream. The audience is big, including age cathegories from teenagers to old renegates. The current names of the scene are not difficult to know, but there are also legends that we can hear less about and create platforms, which the current drum and bass is based on. That’s why we have prepared for you a rubric about the big names of the drum and bass world, which you just need to know, so that you can be called honest and educated fan with pure conscience. In the rubric Legends you need to know, we will introduce not only artists, but we will also try to get you closer to the Golder era scene, including specifics or attractions. The first masters we will introduce to you are none other than the legendary duo Stakka & Skynet!

There are many producers on the DnB scene, that are dedicated to dark hard drum and bass. But no one can compare to the British Techical Itch and his legendary editing breaks full of distortions, interlaced with heavy reese bass! Being one of the few drum and bass producers, he was ahead of the time with his sound by decades. The fact that Mark did engeneering for the Goldie Rufige crew suggests that his position on the scene was strong. He was one of the first to start with “Therapy” elements, which are typical fluctuating melody and “tin” snare. His work consists of over 200 releases, including remixes. Again, that‘s why I will try to pick the best and most sound tracks from his work.

Sonic & Silver– „Tech itch is the prince of dark styled drum and bass the way he makes tracks sound so out there is next level. He’s a top producer and a good lad.“

Aquasky-  „my real epiphany was Tech Itch in 1999/2000. Mark was a fucking soundmaster to me, no one touched Mark. So from checking through a lot of Tech Itchs earlier stuff as i am a record digger, that I started to appreciate the techier side of d&b.“

Before he was Technical Itch, Technical Itch was a man of many other monikers (The Dude, The Third ‘Itch, Psychokenisis, Plasmic Life). I choose the last named and track Deathtrip.

It all started with Technical Itch on the Moving Shadow, under which he was signed for many years. A label that needs no introduction and is one of the huge pillars of the golden era. There he has released his first EPs since 1996. In 1999 he released his legendary album Diagnostics. I own an analogue copy and I recommend buying it to anyone, who wants to make sure that Mark’s sound really aheaded time.

In 2000 he released on his label Tech Itch recordings (ran from 1994) a monster release of Parallax EP. I should mention that it was Kenny Ken, who played some tracks released on Tech Itch recordings on Kiss_FM and that helped the label get into the wider awareness of people.

In 2001, he founded another label called Penetration records, many known as perhaps the most powerful drum and bass label in terms of quality, where Marko releases stuff under the name of Technical Itch. You can find even harder and darker tracks here.

We can not forget on release from 2003 on Moving Shadow with Kemal, in which beautifully hear signatures of both producers.

In 2008, Tech Itch Recordings joins the Tech Itch Digital label, which focuses on publishing digital copies and releases.

In 2013 he even released 2 albums that are full of space atmosphere!

The word “technical” in his name is well deserved, because with his surgically precise sound design and concept, he has become aware of the drum and bass world and brought something new to the drum and bass again. Tech itch has been producing till now and its immense feel to detail in its compositions and sound depth are one of its trademarks!
